SeatFrog
I don’t travel by train as much as I used to, but sometimes it still makes sense.
However, in order to be remotely comfortable and have sufficient space to set the laptop up and get some work done, you really need to go first class.
Call me a snob if you like, but especially at peak times, that’s a fact.
A friend recently put me on to an app called SeatFrog, which can help.
What they do is facilitate the auctioning off of all the first class seats on a train which haven’t been sold in advance. So if you stick a bid in about 24 hours before the train departs, you can get the upgrade for “cheap” or at least, half or less what it might have cost up front.
Spend the difference on bacon rolls (for a morning train) or cans of gin and tonic (for an evening one) and it’s a proper result.
