Accessing your own smart meter data
It’s months, or possibly years, since I first read about Hildebrand/Bright/Glow and their SMETS2 smart meter display - PC Pro covered it, and possibly other sources as well.
The idea is that it’s a smart meter display unit which exposes a local API and allows you to hoover up all the real time data on your energy use. Open banking (finally) allows me to dump all of my financials into a spreadsheet in near real time, and I’d love to add my energy use directly into that as well.
The only problem is that the devices have been out of stock for what feels like forever. But no longer! They sent an e-mail a couple of weeks ago, and I have just managed to order one from the link above.
At £75, not a cheap toy, but should be well worth it for getting a grip on my usage via a permanent data feed independent of the electricity supplier du jour.
More on this when it arrives.
