Netflix, IPv6, Hurricane Electric and Mikrotik
I’ve noticed for some time that Netflix think Hurricane Electric’s IPv6 tunnels (tunnelbroker.net) are a VPN or proxy service, meaning Netflix refuses to play video if you’re using one.
This can be a problem if HE is how you handle the IPv6 on your home network, because your ISP is stuck in 1998.
Fortunately for me, my 2018 smart TV didn’t support IPv6, so in a rare case of two wrongs making a right, I could ignore the problem.
This ostrich-like attiude lasted me well for seven years, right up until I took delivery of my new smart TV, which does support IPv6, and the dreaded message popped up.
Fortunately, someone smart out there has figured it out.
Essentially, you need to modify your DNS to pretend there are no AAAA records for a list of Netflix domains, and that works around it.
If you have a Mikrotik router, the facility exists and looks a bit like this:

There’s no facility to return null/not found, but set them all to return ::1
and via the magic of “happy eyeballs” the right result happens. Don’t forget to
select “Match subdomain”.
